Just a little interview with Jasmine Mary.

So just a few little questions concerning granny chic.

So Miss lets just start with what Granny chic means to you?

Personally it means it is now cool and socially acceptable for me to idealise gran. I can now borrow My grans clothing and know one will say a word.

Jasmine it has always been cool to idealise your gran! So what are the keys points in your style which make you Granny chic?

Well i shall start from the bottom and work my way up. To start my brogues and in fact any shoes bought from an awful old woman's catalogue. Then of course its the over sized knitted cardigans and paisley skirts. Finished with my favourite carpet bag. But of course knit wear is a massive part to any any one's wardrobe who adopts the granny look.

Knitwear is most defiantly a key point especially aran cardigans and the best place to get them is charity shops. Whats your favourite buy and why?

It has to be my hideously beautiful green, blue and purple paisley dress I found for £1.50 in a Devon charity shop. I have come home on many occasion to find the shredder on and my mum about to destroy it. She hates it!

Well it has to be said its one of my favourites. On the topic of charity shops wheres best if you don't mind giving away your secrets?

Well of course Devon as a whole. There isn't so many vintage buyers to get there first which means its easy to grab a bargain.  A great example of this is my Walker and Hawks wax jacket i got for £5. A favourite in London is Norwood in south gate run by rich house wives who devote a lot of time to making it an incredible place to shop. The problem with big charity shops now is that they have put there prices up, Oxfam for example have now opened vintage sections which means no more £5 dresses but more like £30. It completely ruins why we like charity shops.

So Jasmine to finish off i was just wondering being a twee folk artist yourself, who would you say reflects the movement musically?

Well my personal style is something i like to call Twee Folk Jazz, easy listening but something you can also boogie to. I would say other artists such as Julia stone and Lesley Fiest. Laura Marling can also be known to wear the odd tea dress.

Thank for your time jasmine its been a lovely chat full of laughter and i look for would to talking soon.

Mine for tea?

Granny Chic
so granny chic is it a new thing? Personally i think not, it seems to of been circulating for years but has just hit the celebrities which of course makes it new to the press. I even remember talking to my mum about how in her teens she would rummage through charity shops for long skirts flat shoes and large cardigans for the granny look.  Yes this may of been due to the expense of clothing and the need to shop in charity shops but that doesn't deny there was fashion in mind. New or old it's great. i personally love it and why wouldn't you seeing pretty tea dresses everywhere knowing that the wearer feels incredibly feminine. Of course girls would feel great, going back to young girls at children's party's, we all loved dancing in our flowery dresses. There is something quite lovely about it all. The roles of a woman may of changed but but we still all love baking cakes and drinking tea. Its not just about the clothes we want the tea pots to!
